Cobalt blue was one of the few pigments capable of withstanding the high firing temperatures required for salt-glazed stoneware.\n\nThe history of the Cassidy house dates back to 1801 when Louis Renaud founded a manufacturing and import firm for crockery under the name Renaud et Cie. Around 1830, John-Louis Cassidy, of Irish origin, partnered with Louis Renaud to form the firm Renaud \u0026amp; Cassidy. The partnership lasted until 1865, when Louis Renaud retired.\n\nThe business was then reorganized under the name John L. Cassidy \u0026 Co.
