About the artist
Benoît Côté (1929–2018) was a self-taught Quebec painter renowned for his expressive landscapes and his semi-abstract approach to nature. After studying at Laval University, he received a scholarship in 1959 that allowed him to travel and study in Europe. From the late 1950s, he exhibited alongside Jean Paul Lemieux, Jean-Philippe Dallaire, Edmund Alleyn, and Claude Picher. Settling in Île d'Orléans, he developed a personal style characterized by generous impasto, a luminous palette, and a poetic interpretation of Quebec landscapes. His works are included in numerous public and private collections.
