About the artist
Stanley Morel Cosgrove (Montreal, 1911-2002) was a Quebec painter, draftsman, and muralist trained at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal. He refined his practice in Mexico with muralist José Clemente Orozco, and then in France. His work, which includes landscapes, forests, female figures, and still lifes, is distinguished by a soft palette and rare poetic sensibility. A member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, his works are featured in the collections of several major Canadian museums.
