Gaston Roullet (1847–1925) was a French painter, watercolourist and illustrator known for his seascapes, colonial views and exotic scenes. A student of Jules Noël, he was appointed official painter of the Navy in 1879, which allowed him to travel to Algeria, Indochina, Tonkin and Senegal, documenting the life and landscapes of the French colonies. His precise and luminous style, blending ethnographic observation and pictorial sensibility, made an impression at exhibitions of his time, particularly at the Salon des Artistes Français. His works are now prized for their historical and artistic value. The size of the artwork is 9 x 11 inches.
