Description
This set of two half-hulls, 3 photographs and a chromolithograph is linked to the history of the city of Quebec and more specifically to that of its shipyards. Built at Cap Blanc by engineer Walter Gilley Ray between 1840 and 1846, the models of the "Oregon" and the "Thomas Fielding" were preserved by the family for over 175 years. The original photographs are by Livernois. Also included in the collection are some photographs and a journal kept by Ray's son, Walter John-Ray (1852-1939). The latter was commander of the 8th Quebec Regiment from 1868 to 1906. Please contact us for more information.
